Enrique Bunbury, with 35 years of musical career, announced this Monday his retirement from the stage.
The reason , according to what he himself told on his social networks, are the throat problems that he has been dragging for years.
“I have made the decision, very thoughtful and conscious, to abandon my interpretive activity in concerts and tours. The concerts that remain pending between now and September of 2022 in the United States and Spain will be the last ones that I perform.
“I have been dragging along a malaise that has cost me a lot to locate and understand. Possibly, from the Mutaciones tour in the 15-16 and especially in Expectations, in the almost two and a half years that the tour lasted, between 17-19″, detailed the Spaniard.
For the musician of 35 years, as indicated, the stoppage caused in 2020 and 2021 by the pandemic of the coronavirus, gave him a truce.
“It made me think that perhaps my illness had been diluted and the desire to meet again with the public, technicians and musicians on stage, was a much more powerful force . What has happened to me on this Mexican tour corroborates the opposite and confirms and advances, a decision that I knew was close”, he added.
Before saying goodbye, the singer thanked his audience for the more than fifteen hundred concerts he has given in his career.
“In these 35 years, I have been on the best stages in the world and some of the worst, I have performed in front of 25 people and 250 thousand and, in most of them, I have had the fortune to enjoy a time when neither masks nor cell phones were seen. Sincere thanks!” said the artist, who in 2020 criticized the measures taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Bunbury began 2022 with a tour of Mexico. He had two dates at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. The second, that of 12 in February, he had to cancel due to his acute laryngitis.
Despite leaving live shows, the singer from Zaragoza will continue to be linked to music, “composing songs, recording albums and writing poetry”.
Enrique Bunbury gave a last couple of concerts in Guadalajara on 23 and 24 in February, at the Telmex Auditorium.
