Ukrainian boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko, former world champion in three categories, joined the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky Territorial Defense Battalion to fight in the war against Russia, according to his social networks.

The 34 year old boxer played his last duel in November of last year against Richard Commey and, at this time, he did not have any confirmed fight, so it has decided to take up arms in defense of Ukraine.

“The Belgorod-Dniester Territorial Defense Battalion has been formed and armed. The boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko is in the defense”, wrote the former champion in networks.

Lomachenko (16-2) follows the example of Wladimir Klitschko, a former heavyweight champion who joined the Ukrainian reserve army. For his part, Vitali Klitschko, also a heavyweight champion like his brother, is mayor of the city of Kiev

“Today there is a great tragedy, not only for Ukraine, but also for Europe and the world. The forces of evil fight against our land. We in Kiev ensure the functioning of the capital’s critical infrastructure. We all work for the defense of our country. Glory to Ukraine!“, Lomachenko explained in one of his publications.
