Edson Arantes do Nascimento ‘Pelé’ was discharged after recovering from a urinary infection and will continue with the treatment of the colon tumor that was detected in September, the doctors who attended him reported this Monday.
The star was discharged last Saturday from the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in Sao Paulo, where he had been admitted since the past 13 of February to give sequence to the treatment of colon cancer, as explained by his medical team in a statement released today.
According to the note, Pelé was forced to extend his stay in the medical center of the São Paulo capital after he contracted a urinary tract infection, from which he is already “cured” and for which he was discharged on the weekend.
“The patient is in stable clinical conditions, already cured of his urinary tract infection, and will continue the treatment of the tumor of colon, identified in September 2021“, announced a statement released by the hospital.
Last 31 August, the triple world champion with the Canarinha (1958, 1962 and 1970) was hospitalized in the same clinic to perform routine tests that had been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and in which the tumor was detected, for which he underwent surgery a few days later.
Since then, Pelé has undergone chemotherapy sessions that have routinely taken him to the hospital, which has generated endless rumors about his state of health, which the former player himself has had to publicly deny on various occasions.
In addition to the tumour, Pelé’s health has deteriorated in recent years due to various problems with his spine, hip and knee, which have reduced his mobility and have forced him to go through the surgical center.
