NYPD released a dramatic video of the shooting at a liquor store in East Harlem where Shaquell Gainey, a young man from 25 years old, was killed over the weekend.

The images, released early yesterday morning, show the suspect on Saturday around 11 pm strolling down the sidewalk. He then stopped in front of the “Liquors INC” store on First Avenue, near East 116th Street , where he fired at least one round, just as someone ran in.

Then he opened fire again towards the business. A man standing by the door appears to move out of the way and then runs past the gunman, according to the video. Gainey was shot in the chest during the fight and it is unclear if he was the target. He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the New York Post reported.

The suspect was described as about 6 feet tall and slim build. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call 1-800-577-TIPS (74782) and in Spanish 1-888-25-CLUE (74782). Also through crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by text message to 274637 (CRIMES), followed by TIP550. All communications are strictly confidential.

After the boom of armed violence in 2020 and 2021 particularly among young gang members and/or victims, the 2022 started with the same trend, representing a great challenge for new Mayor Eric Adams, former NYPD.
