The photo of a Ukrainian girl injured by Russian attacks inside an ambulance in the port city of Mariupol has shocked the world and has become popular in recent hours on social networks.

The image, taken by Associated Press photojournalist Evgeniy Maloletka, was captured this Sunday.

In the photo, the 6-year-old girl is seen lying on a stretcher inside an ambulance while team doctor performs cardiovascular resuscitation in a desperate attempt to save his life.

Maloletka also shared the images he took on his Instagram account and included the following description: “What do we know about the war? Today I saw a great tragedy of a Ukrainian family who was injured and lost their daughter.” The comment is accompanied by the tags #ukraine #war #invaision #russia #mariupol @apnews.

Next to the dying minor is her father, also wounded, with a bloody and bandaged head.

“Show this to Putin,” a doctor said angrily according to the AP report. “The eyes of this girl, and the doctors crying,” added the health worker.

The tearful face of the mother, who remains standing in front of the ambulance while covering her mouth in apparent a sign of helplessness, adds more drama to the scene.

The family was in a supermarket when they were hit by a projectile in the city, located in southeastern Ukraine.

The photo that shows in the foreground the horrors of war and its cost to the most innocent has become a kind of symbol of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, after the latter country’s militia invaded the other last Thursday.

According to the United Nations (UN) count, at least 406 deaths of civilians in Ukraine.

Martin Griffiths, Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Coordinator of Emergency Aid of the entity, said this Monday through a videoconference from Geneva, Switzerland, that the number of fatalities could be worse since there were several deaths that have not yet been confirmed by the authorities.

On the other hand, the number of deaths in the group is not clear either. of the Russians.

At the moment, there are some 119 humanitarian organizations on Ukrainian territory. However, the ability to provide on-the-ground assistance is limited due to ongoing military actions.

Griffiths also announced that the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, will make an “Urgent Appeal” today that will focus on two initiatives; one of three months to receive donations aimed at helping Ukraine and a “Regional Refugee Response Plan” for the situation reported in the countries bordering Ukraine that are receiving some 520,000 refugees fleeing the war in the country.

This latest effort will be led by Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
