Only in the United States, some 62,210 people, mostly men, will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer during 2022; of them, about 49,830 will die. Pancreatic cancer is responsible for 7% of cancer deaths in this country and its timely detection can make the difference between life and death. An upset stomach could warn of pancreatic cancer and help detect it early.
According to the American Cancer Society, one of the great problems with pancreatic cancer is that it practically does not cause symptoms in their early stages, but not until they are very developed or have already spread to other organs of the body. Also for this reason, their survival rates are very low and only 5% of those who suffer from it can live 10 years or more.
Stomach symptoms of pancreatic cancer
However, some mainly stomach discomforts can warn of the disease early. The same association indicates that abdominal or back pain is a common symptom in this type of cancer, as well as a sensation of swelling or compression of the stomach, because when a pancreatic tumor grows it begins to oppress other nearby organs.
Also, if you compress the stomach, pancreatic cancer can cause nausea, vomiting, severe pain after eating, and lack of appetite with associated weight loss.
Other symptoms of this cancer can be jaundice, that is, yellow eyes and skin, since bilirubin accumulates and also affects the liver. Other signs may be:
– Dark urine.
– Pale or greasy stools.
– Itchy skin.
– Enlarged gallbladder or liver.
– Clots that are usually visible in the legs .
Although these symptoms may correspond to other types of conditions, it is important to see a doctor for a health status examination. Remember that the sooner you detect a problem, the better the treatment prognosis.
