Different organizations and authorities continue to keep an eye on the armed conflict in Ukraine, seeking to stifle Russia’s claims, even if this means suspending athletes from this country. Now, the president of the Ukrainian Tennis Federation, Seva Kewlysch, demanded the suspension of the number one in the ATP ranking, the Russian Daniil Medvedev.
In principle, the idea of the Federation is that Medvedev compete in the upcoming Masters tournaments 1000 around the world but that his participation in the Grand Slams of the calendar because they are tournaments of the International Tennis Federation.
“Medvedev should not play at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open,” said the director of the federation.
Similarly, the president also requested that the Belarusian athletes are denied participation in these competitions, considering that Belarus has played an accomplice role together with Russia in the military invasion that has cost the lives of more than 000 civilians Ukrainians and has added more than 2, 000 injured.
Kewlysch’s decision was based on the fact that he does not want to see the Russian as number one of the world, as well as condemning and pressing for the end of the war.
“We will let Medvedev play the ATP Tour tournaments but the Grand Slams are ITF tournaments. If you can’t play them, you’ll never be number one. They would be ashamed to be expelled from a competition now”, he added.
Finally, the Ukrainian hopes that the ban climb to the ban of the Russian and Belarusian national team in the Davis Cup (men) and the Billie Jean King Cup (women).
So far, Kewlysch’s request has not been the only one of its kind in the sporting world recently. This Monday it became known that FIFA decided to suspend the Russian team from the World Cup playoff to the World Cup in Qatar 2022 and in the same way CSKA Moscow was expelled from the UEFA Europa League in the key that he faced against Leipzig for the round of 16 of the competition.
