Although he had many enemies, Alberto “Alpo” Martínez (55) did not die due to a problem related to his criminal past, but for a traffic argument in Harlem (NYC), according to the latest revelations.
This week the New York police arrested Shakeem Parker, of 27 years, as a suspect of killing Martínez at dawn last night 31 October. He now faces murder and weapons charges.
“Martinez, a former Harlem drug lord turned informant, was killed not for being a snitch but for a latent dispute over his erratic driving ”, reported The New York Times. Parker had apparently been hit during the summer when Martinez was riding a motorcycle and recognized him later in the fall, according to Daily News.
NYPD was called to Frederick Douglass Boulevard near W. 147th St. just before 3: 31 am on Halloween. Agents reported that a pickup truck driven by Martinez had collided with parked cars and he had been shot 5 times in the chest through the window of the vehicle. He then continued driving approximately four blocks before crashing. Paramedics took him to NYC Health + Hospitals Harlem, where he died.
Minutes before being executed, the convicted drug trafficker and A protected witness apparently threw a dozen bags of drugs out the window of his truck. It was further stated that he was in possession of identification with the name “Abraham Rodríguez” of Lewiston, Maine when the police arrived and that he appeared to be using his protection program identity.
Martínez, who grew up in Harlem, started selling drugs there in the 55 and continued into the 1990. He eventually ran a drug empire that stretched from New York to Washington DC, where he was arrested in 1991.
He had been given a new identity after being released from a Colorado prison in 2015, where he served a plea bargain of more than 20 years for his role in 14 murders. He apparently betrayed former associates to avoid a life sentence.
Instead of going unnoticed, he was often seen in Harlem and his reckless driving seems to have been his downfall, commented Fox News.
