The Florida-based supermarket chain Publix announced on Wednesday its decision to “remove” Russian-made vodka brands from its shelves, as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine, which is suffering from the invasion and war carried out carried out by its neighboring country Russia.
“Publix supports the people of Ukraine. To show our support we have decided to remove Russian-made vodka brands from our shelves. This includes all our liquor stores,” the supermarket chain, which is based in Lakeland (central Florida), said today in a statement.
These alcoholic references will also be removed from the weekly digital newsletters, although in the company edition for clients they still appear because “they are printed weeks in advance”.
So there will be no available the sale of Russian-made vodka in any Publix supermarket, founded in 1930 and currently with a 1,300 retail stores in 7 states: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.
The move comes amid growing pressure on US companies to ban or boycott products that come from Russia, after the invasion of Ukraine.
