A woman in Australia nearly lost more than $70,000 dollars she earned in the lottery for not answering calls that sought to alert her to the prize, thinking that they were scammers.
Officials from The Lott, the official provider of the lottery in that country, tried to contact the resident of the town of Frenchs Forest, New South Wales, without success.
It turns out that the player bought a ticket online, through thelott.com, for the draw of the 25 February.
However, she forgot to verify her account after the draw.
Lottery staff contacted the winner by phone, but she ignored the calls for several days under the false belief that they were scammers .
“I received some calls and emails right after the draw, but I didn’t recognize the phone number or the email, so I didn’t answer or find out. I said to myself: ‘it’s definitely a scam,’” the lucky woman recalled, as quoted by UPI.
Eventually, the female decided to log in to The Lott account and discovered that she had won.
Woman won the top prize of $70,580.50 after playing the lottery for a period of 10 years.
“I will have to take everything first and wait for the prize to be deposited in my bank account before deciding how I am going to spend it, but I know I will put it to good use ”, assured the graceful one.
