A mother in Georgia faces charges for starving her 3-year-old son to the point of causing brain atrophy.

The little boy had to be hospitalized last week after Shameka White, of 30 years, allegedly, deprived him of food.

Paramedics responded to an emergency situation in the family home in Gaston County, last 6 March.

The suspect indicated to officers that she believed that his son was having a seizure.

When the boy was transferred to the hospital, the medical staff confirmed that his body temperature was 30 degrees and that the lack of food had caused bruises and scars.

The WSOC report also indicates that the victim suffered several health complications, such as kidney and respiratory failure, as well as brain atrophy.

White reportedly appeared unmoved in the hospital or showed no emotion.

The minor is still in serious condition.

Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Hamlin detailed that the minor is on life support.

The child weighed less than half of what the weight is supposed to be normal for his age.

The boy’s father, Dequan Thompson, told the aforementioned television station that he had almost no contact with his son since he separated from the woman two years ago. The reasons are not clear. As a result of the case, the father requested custody of the child.
