The New York Yankees continue to move in the current MLB free agency and this time they sent first baseman Luke Voit to the San Diego Padres, as reported by the team itself in the morning hours of this Friday, prior to start of the Spring Training games.
After the signing of Anthony Rizzo with the Yankees, it was a matter of time before Luke Voit was changed teams since he would not have a chance at first base, despite the confidence that manager Aaron Boone had shown in him.
For their part, the San Diego Padres had shown interest in Voit since Thursday afternoon and finally managed to make the trade, sending prospect Justin Lange to New York. Lange is a 20 year old pitcher who was drafted into the 34 of the first round of the MLB Draft 2020 .
It should be noted that the change was surprising in many ways and that is that despite the fact that San Diego had already expressed interest in the player, he had been lined up as first base and fourth bat for the first Yankees meeting in Spring Training against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In four seasons with the Bronx Bombers, Luke Voit posted an average of .182 with 69 home runs, 182 RBIs , 167 annotated and 124 tickets negotiated in a total of 281 matches played in which he established an average of .883.
The first baseman of 31 years old arrived at the New York team in the middle of the campaign of the 2018 from the St. Louis Cardinals, where he made his MLB debut at 883.
