Lisa and Anthony Waldron were charged with involuntary manslaughter and criminal negligence in the death of their son of 14 years with cerebral palsy in Palermo (NY).

Both parents were arrested on Wednesday, a month after a medical examiner ruled that the death of teenager Jordan Waldron was a homicide and that infection and malnutrition contributed to the teenager’s death, reported Syracuse.com.

The teen, who died last May, was extremely underweight and had bedsores on “a significant portion” of his body, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office said.

The prosecution alleges that the Waldrons caused Jordan’s death by not moving him enough of his wheelchair, leading to infected bedsores that exposed his bones. They didn’t take him to a doctor, investigators said, to check for problems swallowing the product that led to weight loss. For this reason he died of malnutrition and sepsis, according to the documents.

As part of their investigation, police interviewed the boy’s doctors and teachers, and authorities also obtained his school and health records, according to the report.

The parents were also charged of endangering the welfare of a physically incompetent or handicapped person. At their Wednesday appearance, a judge ordered both to be held on bail.

The defendants pleaded “not guilty” to all charges. The prosecutor also asked the judge to issue a protection order for a girl from 14 years old daughter of the accused, to protect her as a witness of the care and death of her brother. Therefore, the minor was placed in the care of her maternal grandmother.

In a similar case, this week the case of an 8-year-old autistic boy who died weighing only 30 pounds last June in the Bronx. But no arrests have been announced. And a Hispanic woman pleaded guilty to starving her 7-year-old stepson on Long Island.
