The happiest nations, those that are least, as well as the factors that affect greater human happiness are some parameters that the Network of Solutions for Sustainable Development of the United Nations Organization measures in about 150 countries of the world. This is how we know which are the 20 happiest countries in the world in 2022, and Finland is the first place for the fifth consecutive year.
In fact, European countries dominate the list, and the American continent begins to appear practically at the bottom of the top 20, with Canada in first place 15 and the United States in the 16.
Since 10 years the World Happiness Report is published, and for the fifth time the Nordic country repeats as the happiest in the world. To reach this conclusion, global surveys are carried out that evaluate factors such as healthy life expectancy, levels of corruption in the country, social trust, community generosity, social support to solve problems, freedom to make fundamental decisions in life and the Gross Domestic Product per capita.
These circumstances, evaluated with the help of the Gallup World Poll, result in an index of countries that shows how happily their inhabitants live and what their main opportunities are. This year the report indicates that benevolence is growing globally, while concern and stress about the pandemic are declining.
However, the report was made before the invasion from Russia to Ukraine, so experts believe that the war will have a significant influence on the happiness of the countries and, of course, on the index of the next year.
