The head of the Central Command (CENTCOM) of the US Armed Forces, General Kenneth McKenzie, said this Friday that he sees Iran “as the greatest threat to regional security and stability” in the Middle East.
Tehran “provides arms, support and direction to its allies in the region, who carry out acts of terrorism and undermine local governments; all for Iranian interests,” said McKenzie, in a virtual press conference from the Pentagon, before leaving his post on April 1.
The military official added that “the threat of missiles Iranian Ballistics” has continued to expand.
In this situation , McKenzie stressed that the US has promoted its air defense cooperation with its allies, specifically Israel, and stressed that it is seeking to take advantage of the agreements to normalize relations between the Israelis and several Arab countries, such as Morocco. , United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
“Although still incipient at the moment, we have seen a willingness on the part of traditional regional allies to work together in exercises with the Israeli Defense. Air defense is an excellent opportunity for cooperation,” he said.
McKenzie considered that a first step could be to share information with a view to improving anti-missile systems against Iran and expressed his hope that cooperation progress in this area in the coming years.
CENTCOM’s area of operations covers 21 countries and extends from North Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia.
