irs-reminds-you-to-file-taxes-on-time-to-avoid-costly-penalties-and-interest

Remember, you must file your tax return by the April 18 deadline, even if you can’t pay your full tax bill. And it is that taxpayers who owe taxes and do not file the declaration on time, can be charged a penalty for not filing the declaration. This penalty is usually 5% of the tax due for each month that you are late, or part of a month that the tax return is late, up to 18% .

If you owe taxes, but cannot pay them in full before the due date of 18 April 2022, then you must file your tax return or request an extension to file it before the deadline.

Please note that people who owe taxes and do not file your return on time or request an extension, you may face a penalty for not filing your return on time.

You must remember that an extension to file is not an extension of time to pay. An extension gives taxpayers until October 17 2022 to file their tax return of 2021, but taxes due are still due on 18 April of 2022.

To obtain an extension to file, you must take one of the following steps:

–File the Form 4868(SP) through your tax professional, tax software, or Free File on IRS.gov.

–Submit an electronic payment with Direct Payment, Electronic Federal Tax Payment System or by means of a debit, credit or digital wallet card and select the Form 4868(SP) or extension as payment type.

Pay as soon as possible before the deadline of April 18 , because whether they file a return or request an extension, taxpayers must pay their tax bill in full by the due date in a bril to avoid penalties and interest.

If you do not pay your taxes on time you will face a penalty for non-payment.
