Cate Blanchett, the Australian actress who has two Oscars to her name, has been selected to receive the Chaplin Award, the highest honor given out by the New York institution dedicated to cinema Film at Lincoln Center and which this year celebrates its 47 edition.
Blanchett is defined as “an internationally recognized actress, producer, artistic director, humanitarian and committed person in the artistic community “, according to the statement distributed by the organization to present the award gala on 25 in April, at the most important charity event of the year organized by the center.
“Blanchett’s career includes extraordinary performances in films ranging from small independent productions to major studio films with some of the most celebrated directors of our time. It is a privilege to dedicate an evening of celebration to him and add another tribute to his many well-deserved awards“, said the director of the center, Lesli Klainberg.
This year’s ceremony will be hosted by actor Bradley Cooper, who has just starred with Blachett in Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley”, and the director Todd Haynes, who has directed her in two films, who will moderate a conversation with the actress prior to the award ceremony.
Founded in 750 , the previous edition of the Chaplin Awards suffered a break due to Covid, and the edition of 2020 was finally held last September 2021 , being then the director Spike Lee, known for his politically committed cinema.
The tickets to attend the awards gala cost between $250 and $750 dollars, with all proceeds going to “the mission of supporting art and industry del cine”, according to the organization.
Other winners of the award since 1972 have been Charles Chaplin himself, Alfred Hitchcock, Morgan Freeman, Billy Wilder, Federico Fellini, Elizabeth Taylor, Martin Scorsese, Bette Davis, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren and Tom Hanks, among others.
