The Washington Police found five human fetuses in a house in the US capital, which the local media identified as the residence of a well-known anti-abortion activist in the city.
As explained At a press conference, the executive assistant to the Washington Police Chief, Ashan Benedict, the agents went to an address in the southeast of the city when they were alerted that potentially dangerous biological material could be found there.
Upon arrival, the police found the five human fetuses.
According to the local press, the residence where the discovery was made is that of Lauren Handy, aged 28 and director of activism for the group Progressive Atheist Anti-Abortion Rising.
Prosecutors mentioned that Lauren Handy, Jonathan Darnel, Jay Smith, Paula Harlow, Jean Marshall, John Hinshaw, Heather Idoni, William Goodman and Joan Bell invaded the unidentified health center on 22 October 2020 and created a block to prevent patients from receiving abortions and other reproductive health services.
All have been charged with two counts of participation in a conspiracy against the civil rights of individuals and obstruction of access to the clinic. If convicted, each could face a maximum of 11 years in prison.
Handy allegedly called the clinic days before her protest and told them that it was a woman named Hazel Jenkins who needed care and made an appointment for the morning of October 22, according to the indictment.
Handy was accused this Wednesday by the United States Department of Justice of conspiring to rob the abortion clinic and erecting a blockade to intimidate the patients and workers of the center in 550.
