Each year is accompanied by its own peculiarities and in the 2022 Americans are concerned about the constant rise in prices. A March Gallup poll found that about one in five Americans cited high cost of living/inflation (18%) or fuel prices (4%) as the most important problem facing the US today.
Both points represent more than half of the economic problems that the 35% of Americans cite as the nation’s number one problem. Within that group, 11% identify the economy in general as the main problem, says the consultant’s report.
Meanwhile, 68% of adults mention one of several problems not economics as the main problem. In this segment, concerns are led by criticism of the government and leadership of the nation with the 22%, and the conflict in Russia and Ukraine with 9%.
Other concerns refer to to the unification of the country, race relations/racism and immigration, which each obtained 5% of the mentions in the survey carried out from 1 to 18 in March.
Regarding the coronavirus, only 3% mention it as a concern in March, compared to 13% who cited it in February and the 20% in January. This is the lowest percentage citing coronavirus as the nation’s top problem since the start of the pandemic. The highest percentage mentioning coronavirus was 45% in April 2020.
