After several years trying to enter the world of the MLB, Amazon Prime Video will finally broadcast 21 Yankees games from New York during the season 2022, as reported by the New York Post, which also announced that these broadcasts will only be on Friday nights.
Although Amazon and Yankee Entertainment and Sports Network (YES) declined to comment, the NY Post learned that the first game to be broadcast through the streaming service will be 22 in April when the New York team hosts the Cleveland Guardians.
This is the second agreement made by a streaming technology giant for tran smit Major League Baseball game, after the agreement reached between Apple TV + and MLB to broadcast two games per week that coincidentally will also be on Fridays and will start this April 8 with the game between the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals.
It should be noted that the fact that Amazon has the exclusive rights to stream at least 21 Yankees game , it is not new and it is that since 2019, the NY Post had reported that the video streaming company was trying to be able to transmit some meetings.
One of the main reasons why these games can be seen on this platform is that Amazon became one of the three owners of YES, along with Sinclair and the Yankees.
Although little by little the technological giants of internet transmissions are entering the world of sports, fans still need n of traditional TV to be able to enjoy most of the games. ESPN, for example, will maintain the exclusive games of “Sunday Night Baseball”.
In turn, this type of negotiations represents an evident extra income for the MLB and its teams since now the fans will have to stop a subscription on the different platforms to be able to entertain yourself with baseball games.
