The chief medical adviser to the president of the United States, Anthony Fauci, pointed out that citizens must decide for themselves their level of risk of exposure to Covid-19 to the extent that people learn to live with the virus, and he did not rule out measures for the use of masks.
“What is going to happen is that we are going to to see that each individual will have to make their calculation of the amount of risk they want to take by going to an indoor dinner that will work even within the scope of a ‘green zone,'” Fauci said in an interview on “This Week.” ” from ABC this Sunday. “It will be a person’s decision about the individual risk they are going to take.”
“Green zones” have been labeled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in most of the United States. This means that there is a “low” level of concern about the virus. The health agency recommended keeping up to date with vaccinations and getting tested if you have symptoms.
In order for the use of masks to be activated, the zone must be designated as “red” or “high risk”. Given this, Fauci minimized concerns about progress towards the “red zone” despite the significant increases in cases in the country.
“It was said that if we start to see an increase, particularly in hospitalizations, we may need to go back to being more careful and have more indoor mask use,” Fauci said. “But right now, we’re watching it very, very carefully, and there’s concern that it’s increasing, but hopefully we won’t see more seriousness.”
The health official positively highlighted the level of prevention and vaccination of Americans. However, he warned that people should be aware of the decrease in immunity that occurs over time.
Previously, the CDC suggested a fourth dose of Covid-vaccines 19 for immunosuppressed people. Fauci urged people who are eligible to consider that vaccination.
He asked Congress to provide the necessary funds for new tests, medicines and more vaccines in order to maintain protection and prepare for a possible increase in infections.
