A Las Vegas high school student was arrested for attempted murder and sexual assault on his teacher, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
In the event that occurred last Thursday afternoon at Eldorado High School, a student of years old, who has not been identified, entered a classroom to talk to his teacher about his grades, investigators with the LVMPD Sexual Assault Section said.
The situation got complicated moments later, because according to the police, the young man tried to hit the victim and strangled her, to the point where the educator lost consciousness, reported ABC 13.
After the assault, the student ran away from the classroom. A high school employee was the one who found the injured teacher and called 911, police said, who arrested the young man in a home without major incident.
The teen was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for attempted murder, sexual assault, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, first degree kidnapping, and robbery. Prosecutors will determine the charges that the young man will have to face in court.
The superintendent of the Clark County School District, Dr. Jesús Jara, said he felt “devastated” by the news of the assault to one of the circuit masters.
“Our hearts are heavy for the violence committed against her. We pray for her full recovery, ”said Jara. “Violent acts, assaults and bullying will not be tolerated in the Clark County School District. Those who decide to participate in these activities will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
For her part, the director of the educational institution , Christina Brockett, sent an email to parents notifying them that a school staff member was assaulted. On Friday, the school authority sent a message to the community thanking the high school staff who helped respond to the incident.
“Eldorado is an amazing school with students and staff who are here to support each other. to others,” Brockett added. “While it will take time, we will work through this and emerge as a stronger Sundevil family.”
Officials from the school district and the Clark County Education Association spoke Friday with high school staff about the assault.
