The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, highlighted this Thursday the “cooperation” between governments and the “intelligence” in the capture of Colombian drug lord Eduard Fernando Giraldo, alias “Boliqueso”, head of international drug trafficking.
“Yes, there was cooperation with Colombia, with international agencies, and the arrest was made in Mexico City by the Secretary of the Navy,” replied the president, questioned about the participation of the Anti-Drug Agency of United States (DEA) in the matter.
The Colombian Police had reported this Wednesday that the authorities located Giraldo in one of the most exclusive sectors of Coyoacán, the southern mayor of Mexico City, after Mexican and Colombian forces followed him for several months in Acapulco and other cities.
According to the Colombian Police, Giraldo is a “historical ringleader of international drug trafficking to Central America, Europe, Es United States and the United Arab Emirates”.
“(It was) an arrest of an alleged criminal from Colombia, apparently famous in Colombia, wanted by international agencies from several countries and arrested in Mexico. He was detained by the Secretary of the Navy and deported yesterday,” López Obrador now elaborated.
Although the president of Mexico has criticized the presence of DEA and FBI agents in operations against drug trafficking in the country, the operation was a joint action by authorities from Colombia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Giraldo “He had belonged to the cartels of Cali, Norte del Valle” and was “responsible for sending several tons of cocaine to the United States.”
The Mexican president said that it corresponds to the Secretary of the Navy and the National Institute of Migration (INM) to give more details about the capo’s capture.
“What also happens in these cases is that we do not exaggerate or maximize the facts, but rather it is our job and there has to be cooperation, so that arrest was carried out, like others”, he indicated.
He also bragged about the lack of violence in the d detention of this and other drug trafficking leaders.
“More intelligence is being used than force because there have been arrests where there is no confrontation, that is a recommendation made to the security forces”, mentioned.
