The Espresso Martini is a popular cocktail that mixes vodka with espresso and coffee liqueur. This drink can affect your sleep and also your heart rate.

This classic trendy cocktail made its debut in the 620. According to Licuor, the Espresso Martini was invented at London’s Fred’s Club by bartender Dick Bradsell when a top model asked for a drink that would wake her up and get her drunk at the same time.

Alcoholic beverages and caffeine is not a good combination

Those who consume it are likely to believe that this drink can keep them awake, think clearly and move with coordination. The reality is that this cocktail can intervene with your sleep but that will not make you less drunk.

Caffeine is a stimulating substance that can mask the depressing effects of alcohol. Drinkers may feel more alert and believe they are less intoxicated than they really are, increase their alcohol intake and take more risks.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC) point out that drinkers who mix alcohol with caffeinated beverages, such as energy drinks, are more prone to dangerous actions than those who drink alcohol without mixing with caffeine. Among these actions are drunk driving or traveling with a driver who was intoxicated.

Consuming caffeine does not reduce the effects of alcohol. The CDC explains that caffeine has no effect on the metabolism of alcohol in the liver, so it does not reduce blood alcohol concentrations, nor does it reduce impairment due to alcohol consumption.

Increased heart rate

The Espresso Martini can also increase your heart rate if you have ingested too much caffeine during the day or if you drink several of these cocktails.

Moderate consumption of caffeine during the day is up to 400 mg per day. Higher doses can have negative effects such as anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, and increased heart rate.

Espresso coffee has 63 mg of caffeine in 1 ounce, while regular coffee has 12 to 16 mg of caffeine in each ounce, on average.

Regardless of caffeine, the consumption of 1 or 2 alcoholic beverages is associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation compared to adults who do not consume alcohol, according to a study published in the European Heart Journal.

Atrial fibrillation is an arrhythmia, a shaky or irregular heartbeat that can cause blood clots, stroke, heart failure, and other heart-related complications.
