Police released a new video showing how a violent confrontation between police and multiple suspects unfolded that led to the shooting of a Yonkers police detective on 20 April.

The suspect, identified as Bryant Jackson, of 28 years old, was shot and killed by an FBI agent who returned fire. Here are the images shared by the Yonkers police:

The detective, who received a bullet in the stomach, was hospitalized in serious but stable condition after undergoing “emergency surgery for life-threatening internal injuries,” the police reported. Yonkers police.

“He has damage to his colon, intestines and kidneys, and he lost a lot of blood, but fortunately we think he will be fine,” said Yonkers Police Commissioner, John Mueller.

How the Yonkers shooting happened

The shooting occurred around 2: 10 pm when members of a suppression task force FBI crime detectives were chasing suspects in a weapons investigation near the intersection of Elm Street and Lincoln Street in the Nodine Hill neighborhood.

One of the suspects tried to push the detective before he appeared shoot a gun out of his pocket, injuring the detective, the veteran of 27 years with the Yonkers Police Department, Mueller said.

The FBI agent then shot and killed the suspect. A preliminary investigation showed that no other members of the task force returned fire, Mueller said.

Several other people were arrested and two weapons were recovered, including the one allegedly used to wound the detective, Mueller said.

Police also did not release the names of the FBI agent or the suspects, as they said the two people arrested were being charged federally, but their identities will be released soon.

There is no body camera footage of the incident because the officers were working on a special task force, but the posted video was from the warehouse.

“It is a combination that we have found very effective in the past to combat the increase in armed violence, where we have officers from the state police and the Yonkers police and other local police agencies that work in conjunction with the FBI”, Mueller said.
