The Latin American Music Awards 2022 were broadcast live on Telemundo from the Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort, marking the first time the awards were held in Las Vegas.
The great show, which was hosted by Rafael Amaya, Jacqueline Bracamontes and Cristián de la Fuente, served to showcase the talent in the Latin music industry, but also served as a witness to the epic fail of Eduin Caz.
To present the ‘Song of the Year’ category, the member of Grupo Firme took the stage with Mariah Angeliq and after naming the nominees, Eduin prepared to present the award, but when he was about to give the name of the winner, he made the wrong award: instead of saying the name of the Latin American Music Awards, he wanted to give Jhay Cortez a Latin Grammy.
“And the winner of the Latin Grammy Music Award is…”, he pronounced first. It was then that he realized his mistake and said very sadly: “Oh no, I was wrong!”, which generated laughter from those present at the ceremony.
Another of the highlights of the night was the Black Eyes Peas performing a bilingual version of their hit “Where is the Love?” (Where is the love?) in a show of solidarity with Ukraine. It included the participation of the Ukrainian singer NK and more than 25 Latin artists on stage, all dressed in white.
Karol G made history as the first woman to win the highest honor at the Latin American Music Awards as Artist of the Year, but the Colombian urban music singer, who won six awards, was not present to receive them.
Bad Bunny, also absent, won five awards that included Favorite Male Artist.
Additionally, Mexican singer Christian Nodal was recognized with the Extraordinary Evolution award, and gave a special performance. While the icon Lupita D’Alessio received the Legend Award.
