The controversy continues regarding the leaked audios of Gerard Piqué. On this occasion, the Barcelona center-back betrayed the trust of Sergio Ramos, by sharing a conversation with the then captain of Real Madrid with Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
In May 2020, Piqué forwarded an audio to Rubiales in which Ramos criticized the head of Spanish football. According to El Confidencial. This, due to the “war” between the RFEF and the Association of Spanish Soccer Players (AFE), when Rubiales wanted to remove David Aganzo from office.
“Rubi had three or four in the AFE who told him everything, even when Aganzo was president. He then he caught and threw them out. From then on the war began and now he wants to kill it, because Rubi wants to rule the Federation and the AFE“, the now PSG player can be heard saying.
This audio would have to have stayed on Piqué’s phone; however, he forwarded it to Rubiales. Aware that he was betraying Sergio Ramos’ trust, the Barcelona central defender asked the RFEF president to be extremely discreet.
Rubi, this is a message you sent me Sergio Ramos. Keep it for yourself. Please keep it confidential. The subject is a bit complicated… Sergio sent me this and now I’m a bit pfff… I don’t know, I don’t know what I can do about it. I don’t know if you can talk to Sergio, but just so you know where he stands. That’s why I sent you the audio, okay? Let’s talk whenever you want.
Gerard Piqué to Luis Rubiales
All this controversy of Piqué occurs because some audios were leaked in which, through his company Kosmos, he agreed with the RFEF a millionaire commission to transfer the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia. Later, the player became known and asked Rubiales to intercede so that the Spanish team would call him to the Olympic Games that were held last summer in Tokyo.
