President Joe Biden will send Congress his new reform package against Russia for the invasion of Ukraine, as well as a request for $33, 000 millions of dollars.
“The cost of this fight is not cheap, but giving in to the aggression will be more expensive if we allow it to happen,” defended the president about his plan, who said it was better to back the Ukrainians to keep the US “on the sidelines while the Russians continue their atrocities in Ukraine”.
The president affirms that sending more aid to the government of Volodymyr Zelensky is not a direct attack on Russia.
“We are not attacking Russia. We are helping Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression… Russia is the aggressor”, he said.
The funding request includes $20,000 million in military equipment for Ukraine, $8,500 million in economic assistance and $3,000 millions in humanitarian aid.
“President Biden will send a proposal for a comprehensive legislative package that will enhance the authority of the United States government to hold the Russian government and Russian oligarchs accountable for the president’s war Putin against Ukraine”, says the plan released by the White House.
The package will even establish new authorities for the confiscation of assets linked to Russian millionaires with the regime of Putin.
“It will allow the government to use the proceeds to support Ukraine and further strengthen the tools related to law enforcement,” it says.
There are other funds, such as $500 million to support US crop production to address the global food impact caused by the war.
