Kimberly Alarcón has just given birth to twins in Westchester (NY) for the third time in her life, adding up now children in total in her family, nine conceived by her naturally and another adopted.
“The chances of it happening three times in a row are very unusual,” certified the Dr. Angela Silber, who in her 20 years at Westchester Medical Center had never seen anything like it. It all started when Alarcón gave birth to her first “dizygotic” or fraternal twins, who come from her father’s side of the family.
“Once a woman has these types of twins, they increase the possibilities, but the fact that it happens again and again makes it extraordinary”, Dr. Silber reiterated to NBC News. In general, the chance of having twins in the US. it is 1 in every 250 pregnancies, but giving birth to more than one set of twins is even rarer. And three times, much less.
The twins Kenzy and Kenzley were born just before noon on Monday 25 of April. It was the first C-section for her mother. “In total, we have 10” children, Alarcón said with a smile. “The other kids, they’re good. They are calling… They already want us at home.” The offspring include a nephew they adopted.
Alarcón already had three children when she found out she was pregnant again, her first twins. At that time she thought it was a joke when she heard the news and of course she would never imagine that it would be repeated twice more.
Even in 2021 she was pregnant for the 6th time and they were triplets, but the pregnancy was not successful term, detailed News 12. Shortly after she learned that she was expecting twins, for the third time, which are the ones that have now been born.
All her pregnancies have been conceived naturally, without in vitro fertilization or other procedures. And her husband John does not rule out having more children. “I would go for another, but I have to respect his wishes,” the father said. “If she says we’re done, I have to respect that.”
In another curious case of maternity, in November two Hispanic women had triple preterm births of natural conception in the same hospital in Queens (NYC), and all were girls.
