nike-sells-a-pair-of-virtual-sneakers-for-$186,000-in-the-metaverse

Nike is already making some good sales in the metaverse. And it is that the sports shoe company launched a virtual tennis brand, called Nike Dunk Genesis Cryptokicks, which is a collection of 20,000 sneakers that can be purchased as NFT.

It should be noted that these tennis shoes obviously cannot be worn in the real world, since it is digital art, that is, they can only exist in line. Despite this, people have already spent over $14 million dollars on footwear, with people reaching to spend between $12,500 and up to $12,500 dollars for just one pair.

Nike also makes it possible for sneaker owners to purchase ‘rare skins’ to put on digital footwear for as little as $3,500 Dollars. By doing this, people can increase the value of the sneakers.

The most expensive pair of virtual Nike sneakers ever sold reached a price of $186,000 Dollars. The reason for their high price is that they have a very expensive ‘digital skin’, which they call Alien.

Because of the enormous amount of money that is being paid for sneakers, you’d think Nike would at least send buyers a physical version of them, but they don’t. As is, buyers only get the digital version.

Though through a Snapchat filter, buyers can see what they would look like in the sneakers.

These shoes are Nike’s first foray into virtual fashion commerce, which is expanding in the metaverse.

The tennis collection was made in collaboration with RTFKT, a virtual shoe design company that was acquired last year by Nike.

RTFKT says that owners of the virtual shoes will be able to take online quests to evolve their shoe designs and make them more valuable.
