Strong images have been disseminated on social networks showing how while in a school in the municipality of El Tarra in Norte de Santander, Colombia, they were celebrating “Children’s Day”, dissidents allegedly from the ELN shot at children , women and soldiers who were in the place.
The video shows how the teachers reassured the minors saying “nothing is going to happen”, while everyone remained lying on the ground to avoid being hit by bullets.
Local media confirmed that at least 3 were at the scene of the confrontation, children of different ages.
The Presidential Adviser of Colombia, Carolina Salgado Lozano, repudiated the violent acts and affirmed that “children should not be part of this war between groups outside the law”.
“With my hand on my heart I hope that no boy or girl has to be at the mercy of the war and the attacks perpetrated by armed groups”, Salgado emphasized on Twitter.
The General Director of Family Welfare, Lina María Arbeláez, also rejected the acts that endangered the lives of the children and also teachers.
Children can NOT continue to be victims of terrorists,” said the official, who also assured that the institution “deployed teams to provide care to families.”
