The debate was armed this week by the multimillion-dollar operation with which the South African immigrant Elon Musk took control of one of the most popular digital platforms, with the promise to open it to freedom of opinion and diversity of expression, including former President Donald Trump.
But not so fast! It is possible that soon your blue bird user profile will already not be free, because its new owner is studying the subscription system to compensate for the drop in advertising sales on Twitter and there the opinion would cost something.
Musk stirred up the global discussion, when he said that the network is a global public square, and how its advertising sales did not seem so profitable the shareholders saw the opportunity to get out of the business.
This would be another warning bell for governments to define the regulation of the internet and digital applications to avoid polarization. misinformation and comments of racial hatred, such as the fear of critics in the face of policy changes expected on Twitter.
In this debate there is an opportunity for traditional media that like El Diario work to deliver reliable information, with proven data and facts, without bias so that you, dear reader, are better informed.
Twitter was founded just over 16 years ago and collects opinions from more than 200 million users, 16% of whom live here in the United States. And on the platform we find publications from political, social and economic leaders who, according to Musk, would not be silenced or sanctioned, as happened with Trump, after the capture of the Capitol in Washington DC. But Trump has already said that he will not return and will continue with his recently announced “Truth” network.
While networks like Facebook suffer criticism for the use of algorithms to “tie down” young people; in the future Twitter announces that it would use algorithms to increase trust in human accounts and against spam of computer messages, or fake accounts.
With the arrival of the founding tycoon of Tesla and SpaceX, Twitter would leave the Stock Market paying U$44.000 millions to become the stage for public debates but Musk does not clarify if they will be trending Republican, since he has only said that there will be fewer restrictions for users.
The promise is that comments will be maintained, regardless of their origin or content, said the tycoon who will spend part of the agreement of his fortune valued at almost U$280.000 million, simply because he believes that Twitter needs a change of model to be profitable.
