This Friday, a US citizen accused of having murdered a person in the municipality of Olanchito was captured, according to investigative officials from the Honduran National Police.
The subject of 26 years old is originally from Miami, Florida, United States and lived in the Mejía neighborhood of the aforementioned municipality where the operational activity was reported.
According to the police report, the victim was identified as Edy Danilo Martínez Meléndez, whose death occurred last 25 December 2021, in the village of Teguaginal in the municipality of Olanchito.
However, it was not until last 28 February of this year that the Sectional Court of First Instance of Olanchito, Yoro, issued an arrest warrant against him, for assuming him responsible for the crime of homicide.
The investigations determined that the suspect could be an active member of the the Organized Criminal Group called Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13).
The Honduran authorities assure that after extensive investigations, they managed to verify that the man has a pending arrest warrant in Florida, for having committed two homicide crimes and is also being investigated for other criminal acts reported in the US
“It is important to make known that the suspect used several names to mislead the police authorities of his country of origin,” details the statement from the Honduran Police.
