The Cuban baseball player of the Tampa Bay Rays Randy Arozarena, will finally be able to fulfill his desire to represent Mexico in the World Baseball Classic of 2023, after having received his passport from that country, which he arrived at several years ago after fleeing the island on a boat.
With this legal process that was all a success, the outfielder obtains Mexican citizenship and with it, breaks down the only barrier that prevented him from fulfilling his desire to wear the colors of the ‘Tri’ of baseball in the next World Classic, if he is called up.
Arozarena, arrived in Mexico in the year 2015 after fleeing Cuba in a boat as many Cubans have had to do. At that time it arrived in the city of Mérida, capital of Yucatán, where it was established and 13 months later it was signed. by the St. Louis Cardinals of the MLB.
Since then, the American League Rookie of the Year in 2019, who has a daughter born in Mérida, has expressed his desire to represent what is now his second country in international competitions.
“I thank Mexico for receiving me. I feel that I represent Mexicans in the Major Leagues and I would like to represent the colors in the World Classic next year”, the player of 27 years has expressed on several occasions.
So much was Randy Arozarena’s desire to obtain Mexican nationality, that in February of 2021, he publicly addressed the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador in a live on social networks, requesting his help and later the president referred to the case.
