This Friday, the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, promised that before the end of his mandate he will sign a law that would allow state residents to carry a firearm without a permit.
During a Press conference, DeSantis promised to sign a “constitutional carry” law that would eliminate the need for a permit for people to carry weapons. It would be drafted by the state Legislature.
“I can’t tell you if it will be next week, six months, but I can tell you that before I finish as governor, we will sign that bill,” he said in the press conference where he was also announcing the investment in infrastructure.
This, among other initiatives, have been proposed by the conservative Governor during this year in which he is seeking re-election for his second term, however, many have speculated that his sights are more directed towards his aspirations to be the Republican candidate for the White House at 2024 or 2028.
Among these initiatives are a new abortion law which prohibits voluntary interruptions of pregnancy after weeks; as well as legislation that restricts how schools and businesses can talk about race and gender identity and a new electoral map.
