The autopsy performed on Lily Peters, a 10 year-old girl who was found dead in northwestern Wisconsin last Monday, determined that death was due to strangulation and blunt force trauma.

Ronald Patten, Chippewa County Coroner, reported that the autopsy of Illiana “Lily” Peters showed that the cause of death was homicide. He added that he is awaiting the results of toxicology tests, which should be ready in four to six weeks. However, the coroner did not provide further details in this regard.

Peter’s case has gained notoriety after the authorities discovered the body of the minor on Monday morning on a path to walking after being at his aunt’s house in Chippewa Falls, the Associated Press reported.

After the discovery, the community of Chippewa Falls remained on alert, as no arrests had been made, so they warned of a potential danger. The city’s school district called for more police presence in neighborhoods and buildings.

Finally, authorities made an arrest on Tuesday, providing limited details, but assured that the detainee was a minor and was verified that he knew the victim.

Prosecutors formally charged a 14-year-old teenager on Wednesday, whose name has not been disclosed, in adult court. Charges were filed with first degree intentional homicide, first degree sexual assault, and first degree sexual assault with a girl under the age of 13 resulting in in serious bodily harm.

Meanwhile, Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell testified that the teen punched Peters, knocked her to the ground, hit her with a stick and then strangled her before sexually assaulting her. Newell noted that the suspect intended to rape and kill his victim “from the beginning.” The judge in charge of the case set a cash bail of $1 million dollars.
