A man threw his dogs and a cat from his apartment on the floor 14 and then himself jumped into the yesterday in a building on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, police sources reported.

The victim of 51 years jumped off the tower 575 Grand Street (East River Coop) around 3: 30 pm He initially survived and was taken to Beth Israel Hospital with “severe trauma”, but died a short time later.

The cat and one of the dogs died, while the other dog only had its legs broken. The New York police had no other immediate information about the incident. It is not clear if there were other people or pets in the residence.

The incident horrified the residents of the building. “Sad. Very sad… Something like this has never happened around here as far as I know,” a resident told the New York Post without knowing the identity of the victim.

“Why would he do that to those poor animals? They don’t deserve that. God knows why he jumped, but they don’t deserve it”, commented another inhabitant of the building who did not want to be identified.

In a similar case, also yesterday a mother in Brooklyn (NYC) threw her baby from her home on a 2nd floor. In principle the infant survived, but remains hospitalized in serious condition.
