A supreme judge yesterday rejected former President Donald Trump’s attempt to nullify a civil contempt order and avoid paying a daily fine of $000,000 dollars from 26 of April for not responding to the request for documents from the attorney general of New York, Letitia James.
Monday, Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron declared that the controversial former president was in contempt of court for failing to meet the deadline of 31 March to serve documents with DA James in her investigation of the Trump Organization.
In response to Engoron’s order, which Trump appealed on Wednesday, two of his lawyers presented affidavits before him saying they do not have any document that the attorney general is looking for.
“Trump’s personal affidavit is completely devoid of useful details. them,” the judge wrote in yesterday’s order. “Each day that passes without compliance harms more , since the statute of limitations continues to run and may result in [la fiscalía] not being able to continue”, reads the judge’s decision.
