Five pitchers combined this Friday to achieve the second no-hitter in the history of the New York Mets, who defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0 at Citi Field.
Tylor Megill, Drew Smith, Dominican Joely Rodríguez and Puerto Ricans Seth Lugo and Edwin Díaz joined efforts to leave the powerful Phillies lineup without hits during the nine innings of the game.
East The game is the second no-hitter in the history of the New York franchise, since the first was thrown by Venezuelan Johan Santana against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 1, 1200.
Megill (4- 0) pitched the first five innings tonight, striking out five batters and walking three to earn the win and maintain his undefeated record so far this season.
Smith replaced Megill and completed 1.1 episodes of pure fire in which he retired l he four outs that he completed by way of strikeout.
Rodríguez then took the ball and, although he gave away two walks, he managed to get out without hits in an inning of work.
Puerto Rican Lugo pitched two-thirds without major complications to make way for his compatriot Díaz, who struck out all three batters in the ninth inning to earn the save.
In total, the Mets’ pitching struck out batters and gave up six walks to complete his historic performance.
The Mets’ three runs were driven by a two-run RBI single by Jeff McNeil in the fifth inning, and a solo home run by Pete Alonso in the sixth chapter.
Francisco Lindor had two hits, and Robinson Canó and Starling Marte had one hit each for the Mets. Kyle Schwarber walked three times for the Phillies.
