Apple is one of the companies that decided to demonstrate in the face of the warlike invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which is why it made the decision to pause its sales and block the Apple Pay service for Russian customers.
The sanctions and blockades of large technology companies have not stopped happening and are affecting the Russians and the companies themselves, in fact, it is said that Apple will lose around $3 million dollars every day just in iPhone sales , as calculated by the manufacturer of phone cases Burga.
And with regard to the suspension of the Apple Pay service, the company led by Tim Cook is facing a lawsuit from a law firm, seeking compensation of 90 million rubles ($1.28 million dollars) to repair damages caused to Russian consumers affected by Apple’s pay service withdrawal, reported Reuters.
The law firm Chernyshov, Lukoyanov & Partners accused Apple of violating the rights of Russian consumers after the company restricted the use of its Apple Pay integrated service on March 1 in response to Moscow sending troops to Ukraine.
The lawsuit was filed before a Moscow court, and seeks compensation for the “moral damage” caused to citizens, in addition to demanding that Apple resume the operation of Apple Pay services for Russian users.
According to the information, the total figure could increase because the law firm is still inviting more Russian consumers of the service to join the lawsuit.
The firm claims that Apple made a decision to suspend sales of Apple products and restrict services offered in Russia. “Therefore, the claims in our lawsuit are addressed firstly to the parent company and secondly to its subsidiary units,” said Konstantin Lukoyanov, a senior partner at the firm.
The group of Lawyers argue that the decision to stop Apple Pay services in Russia has reduced the functionality of Apple devices sold on the local market, thereby lowering their value, making the actions unfair and discriminatory under Russian law.
The same law firm is filing a similar lawsuit against Netflix, which in March suspended its streaming service in Russia.
