A 7-year-old girl from South Dakota who made her First Communion surprised the priest and others attending the ceremony in the church as she drank all the wine in the chalice at one time.
Stefanie Heidebrink shared through TikTok the video of the moment of her daughter Brynley’s communion, when the little girl does not let go of the container with the wine until she drinks all “blood of Christ”. The images went viral and so far have accumulated more than 15 million views and 21 thousand comments.
In the video you can see Brynley in a white dress, veil and crown, approach the priest who offers her the host, she bows her head, receives the bread and eats it. Then the priest presents the cup with the wine as “The blood of Christ” for her to drink.
The girl takes the glass and tilts it without stopping drinking until all the content is consumed. The priest, who was initially looking at her with pleasure, widens his eyes and begins to sway, flapping his hands, waiting for the girl to return the cup while she smiles nervously at the parishioners present.
When Brynley finished, she crossed her hands and tilted her head to make her way sheepishly to her seat.
Heidebrink told Newsweek that her daughter had forgotten that she only needed to take a sip, instead of emptying the entire goblet. He also said that the girl was a little embarrassed while those present at the ceremony laughed.
When sharing on TikTok the most special moment of her daughter’s First Communion ceremony, Heidebrink added the hashtags, “of like mother like daughter” and “proud mother”.
The first First Communion is one of the sacraments of the roman catholic church. It is a rite for baptized children that is usually celebrated when they are around seven or eight years old. During mass, the priest consecrates the bread and wine, elements of the Eucharist, which represent the body and blood of Christ.
