This Friday, the Haitian Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, reported that the eleven migrants who died in the middle of the shipwreck in Puerto Rico were Haitian citizens.

“The news of the sinking of a ship off the coast of Puerto Rico that caused the death of 11 of our compatriots deeply shocked me. I express my condolences to the families of the victims of this new tragedy that mourns us and plunges us into the greatest desolation,” the Haitian Prime Minister said on his Twitter social network account early this Friday morning.

For its part, the US Coast Guard reported via Twitter that so far they have managed to rescue 38 survivors of the shipwreck, 36 of them Haitians and 2 Dominicans.

The Coast Guard, together with maritime units from Puerto Rico, carried out a search to find the rescue of these people since noon this Thursday when the information was released.

Several helicopters were sent to the scene from the Borinquen Air Station, and the Coast Guard patrolman Joseph Tezanos, according to the International United Front.

According to the authorities, the boat departed from the Dominican Republic and capsized at approximately 10 nautical miles north of the Puerto Rican islet of Desecheo.
