At least half of President Biden’s 22.2 million Twitter followers are fake, a new audit of his account revealed.
The audit, which was conducted for the social media giant by software firm SparkToro, found that the 49. 3% of President Biden’s supporters are “fake,” Newsweek reported on Tuesday.
What are “fake followers”?
SparkToro has defined “fake followers” as “accounts that cannot be accessed and that “will not see the tweets of the account they follow”, either because they are spam, bots, propaganda, or because they are no longer active on Twitter”.
For his part, the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, who is currently trying to buy Twitter, expressed concern about the growing number of fake accounts and raised a possible crackdown on fake accounts.
Musk said he believes the 20% of all Twitter accounts are fake and promised not to go through with your purchase of $44 millions of dollars from the social media giant until s and resolve the problem.
“My offer was based on the fact that Twitter’s SEC filings were accurate”, Musk said.
“Yesterday, the CEO of Twitter publicly refused to show proof of 5% . This deal cannot move forward until he does,” he added.
The current CEO of Twitter, Parag Agrawal, responded to the richest man in the world by saying that the digital giant suspends more than half a million spam accounts every day and blocked several million accounts that it suspects could be spam.
SparkToro used the same audit on Musk himself and found that almost the 70.2% of Musk’s 70.3 million Twitter followers were fake accounts.
