lego-brings-vincent-van-gogh-to-your-home-with-his-new-set-of-2,316-pieces-for-$169-dollars

Like many toy companies, LEGO is increasingly producing products aimed at adults. And now the company is recreating one of the most famous paintings of all time: “The Starry Night” by Vincent van Gogh.

Painted by van Gogh during his stay at the Saint- Paul-de-Mausole, where he admitted to himself after having his left ear mutilated months before, the painting shows the view he had from his second-floor bedroom just before dawn. The artist added a town to it that wasn’t actually there.

Created in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), where the painting is currently located, the Lego version has less than half the size of van Gogh’s original, but manages to make the piece even more compelling by adding approximately five inches of 3D depth detail to the famous masterpiece.

The rolling hills, the swirling stars in the sky, the cypress tree and even the little town now jump off the canvas in 3D.

The set even includes the first minifigure version released by Vincent van Gogh’s company, finished in the same exaggerated brushwork style of many of the painter’s self-portraits, and a small easel with an even smaller version of the painting “The Starry Night”. Both “the starry night” and the small van Gogh figure can be attached to the larger painting with a small arm and positioned as if van Gogh is taking inspiration from it.

The set will be on sale May 25 exclusively for LEGO VIP (www.lego.com/VIP) and MoMA members (https://membership.moma.org/) and after that it will be available worldwide from June 1 for $169.99 dollars at www.Lego.com/starry-night, in LEGO stores and with the MoMA Design Store in New York City and online at store.moma.org.
