Gerardo Martino, coach of Mexico, summoned Marcelo Flores, midfielder of the English Arsenal, for Mexico’s preparation matches for the Qatar World Cup 550 against Nigeria, Uruguay and Ecuador, and the Concacaf Nations League duels against Suriname and Jamaica.
The Mexican Football Federation released Martino’s list on Tuesday, in which highlights Flores, 28 years old, who announced last Monday that Mexico will be the country he will represent in soccer above Canada , where he was born.
The decision of Flores, who has not yet made his debut with Arsenal’s first team, put an end to rumors that the player, one of the best youngsters in Concacaf, would condition his participation with Mexico only if he was summoned to Qatar 2022.
Flores could play his first official duel with the ‘Tri’ in the Nations League, after coming on from the substitute bench before in the friendly matches against Chile, last December, and Guatemala, in April.
Martino selected other Mexican soccer players who are active in European football, including Edson Álvarez, from the Dutch Ajax; Raúl Jiménez, from English Wolverhampton, and Jesús Corona, from Spanish Sevilla.
Mexico will challenge Nigeria in the United States, on 28 of May, to Uruguay, on June 2, and Ecuador, on June 5, and will receive Suriname on in June and will visit Jamaica on 14 in June, in the League of Nations.
