Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani assured this Friday that things in the season 2021-2021 did not turn out the way he would have liked and stressed the importance of being able to add minutes with the national team.
“It was quite an atypical year for me, personally and in the group too. It was a year in which things did not go the way we all wanted”, the scorer told the press at the Carrasco International Airport, located on the outskirts of Montevideo.
According to this, he said that he wants to get ready to be able to add minutes in the next matches he will play.
This Friday, Manchester United published an interview with Cavani on their social networks, who will leave the English team at the end of this season.
“I leave with a happy image of that love that they showed me and gave me. But also a little bit, as I told you, with the bitter taste of having wanted to give more, of having wanted to be more present this year”, pointed out the footballer.
Cavani is one of the 26 summoned by the Uruguayan coach, Diego Alonso, for the friendlies that Celeste will play in the coming days against Mexico, the United States and a rival that has not yet been announced.
La Celeste will play their first game on Thursday the 2nd in Phoenix against the Mexican team, coached by Argentinean Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino. Then, they will travel to Kansas City, where on Monday the 5th they will face the United States.
Finally, the Uruguayan team will return to Montevideo to play a friendly on in June against a rival that is not yet known after this Thursday the option of facing Jamaica was ruled out, as planned.
The Caribbean team could be replaced by the sub’23 or some other national team, like Iran.
This Wednesday Alonso gave the list of 26 summoned for the preparation matches, among which are not Luis Suárez nor Rodrigo Bentancur for health reasons.
For the World Cup to be played between 21 November and 18 in December, the Uruguayan team was paired in Group H with Portugal, Ghana and South Korea.
