mayor-of-uvalde,-texas,-called-for-mental-health-intervention-in-the-united-states-after-the-mass-shooting

The mayor of Uvalde, Texas, Don McLaughlin, offered statements this Friday after the shooting that shocked the city last 24 of major, where 21 people died, including 19 children, at the hands of the adolescent identified as Salvador Ramos, aged 18 years old.

Speaking to “America Reports”, by Fox News, McLaughlin emphasized the issue of mental health in the United States, and urged politicians to take measures to avoid episodes like those of last Tuesday.

“How many times have we heard that a shooter had mental health problems? They never get the help they need. They fell off the face of the Earth. No one wants to foot the bill for mental health treatment. Mental health is real, and as I said, that is not the only factor“, highlighted the mayor of the Texan city.

Although he acknowledged that weapons played a role in the massacre, he stressed that if he had obtained help from the author of the shooting, it could have been avoided, but he pointed out that “the problem is that we do nothing.”

“When we have a mental health treatment here, they evaluate you, it’s fine, it’s gone. We do not have any service in rural Texas. You have to go to San Antonio or Austin. They are two and a half hours away and many families cannot get there. We keep talking about mental health, dealing with it, and we have to stop talking about it. We give billions of dollars to countries that don’t even like us,” added McLaughlin.

The mayor suggested that this money should be used to invest in the construction of facilities dedicated to mental health, and specified that there are homeless people in San Antonio, Houston, Austin and throughout the United States who have these problems, but do not receive help from anyone.
