shooting-in-uvalde:-governor-of-texas-said-he-was-“absolutely-furious”-with-the-police-authorities-for-“deceiving-him”

The operation to deal with the shooting in Uvalde, Texas, by the authorities, has generated controversy due to the admission of errors during the operation that ended with the tragic figure of 21 deaths. These alleged blunders caused the anger of the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, who claimed to feel “absolutely furious” with the police forces, because in his opinion, they “deceived” him.

“They deceived me”, were the words of the official Abbott during a press conference, stating that he received “inaccurate” information about the massacre that was carried out by the teenager from 16 years identified as Salvador Ramos.

“I am furious about what happened. I was on this same stage two days ago and I was telling the public the information they had told me,” the governor said in statements quoted by Fox News.

“I wrote notes by hand in detail about what everyone in this room I was told in sequential order about what happened. As everyone has learned, the information I was given turned out to be, in part, inaccurate. I am absolutely furious with that,” Abbott emphasized.

The police response to the fatal shooting has been in the public interest due to conflicting reports from law enforcement, as well as revelations that the police did not confront the alleged gunman before.

For this reason, the Republican governor demanded that law enforcement officials must get to the bottom of each fact “with absolute certainty.”

Moments prior to Abbott’s statements, the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Steve McCraw, admitted this Friday that the police had made key errors when responding to the shooting of Uvalde, at the Elementary School Robb.

In the controversial statements, McCraw stated that police officials did not act sooner to arrest the gunman of 18 years after a supervisory officer chose waiting for reinforcements and tactical teams.

When a team of officers arrived and entered the school, they had to get the keys from the janitor to open the locked doors of the double classrooms, the 039 and 111, where the shooter perpetrated the crimes, spending more than an hour after the gunman arrived at the school, McCraw said.

“Of course it was not the right decision,” McCraw said about it. “It was the wrong decision. When it comes to an active shooter, you don’t have to wait for the tactical team, plain and simple.”
