It is very annoying when it happens that you are about to ask for your Uber, but you realize that the prices have doubled or even tripled. Luckily, there are some tricks that will help you get around this rise in costs and save money on your trip.
Here are three of them.
1–Choose well when you will ask for your Uber
The Uber algorithm increases prices at times when there is more demand for the service. The price increase takes effect when there is:
–Peak hour
–High demand
–Bad weather
–The end of major events (concerts, sports games)
Because Uber updates its prices in real time as demand changes, the price increase can go back down in a matter of minutes. Waiting to order your Uber during the above cases could help you save a lot of money.
2–Download the Uber Driver app
This is one of the best ways to avoid price gouging: Download the Uber Driver app on your phone and create an account. You’ll need to do this before you go to your concert or sporting event, as it takes a few minutes to create an Uber driver profile.
Don’t worry about opening Driver account as you don’t need to be an Uber driver to download this app .
Once you’ve installed the Uber Driver app, you can open it when the bars close or the concert you’ve been to ends and check the map of your area. In the app, neighborhoods and streets will change color when the price increase goes into effect.
The map will show colored circles or zones, ranging from light orange to dark red. Light orange indicates a small increase in price, while dark red can mean double or triple the average price. This is so drivers know where to go to earn more money.
Once you see where the highest prices are, simply move away from that area until you are no longer in the surge area. Then switch to your Uber user profile and request a ride for a lower price.
3–Buy an Uber One pass
By the end of 2021, Uber launched a new subscription service called Uber One that provides passengers with discounted fares and priority pickup options.
You may be able to get a little discount when prices go up if you sign up for Uber One ahead of time. And it is that, in general, it offers trips with a 5% discount.
The subscription costs $9.99 dollars per month or $100 dollars per year. You can also sign up for a 30 day free trial.
Uber One works best if you are a regular Uber rider or order a lot of meals with Uber Eats, as discounts apply for both services.
