pride-of-mexico!-checo-perez-becomes-the-fifth-latin-american-driver-to-win-the-monaco-grand-prix

Mexican driver Sergio “Checo” Pérez won first place in the Monaco Grand Prix this Sunday, becoming the fifth Latin American to achieve that feat.

In second place in the race was finished by the Spaniard Carlos Sainz of Ferrari and the champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull finished third.

“Checo”, as always, helped himself in the team’s strategy and managed to take the lead of the race at the Monte Carlo circuit, which was reduced in laps by two red flags.

The man from Guadalajara started behind the “ferraris” of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, but took advantage of his first entry into the pits to overtake the two runners and reach first place in the test of the Principality.

Throughout the race “Checo” had to withstand the attack of Carlos Sainz, due to the heavy wear on his tires.

The race was stopped on at least two occasions, once due to heavy rain, and on the second occasion after an accident involving Mick Schumacher de Haas.

The rain came just right 10 minutes before the start of the race, and this generated a change in plans. The competition started a few 10 minutes late. The single-seaters then went out behind the safety car, until the red flag was raised just after the first pass over the finish line.

The cars had to return to the pits and the race resumed more than an hour later than planned.

The man from Guadalajara entered to the pits at 17 to fit intermediates. He signed a good stop (2.3 by 2.7 Hamilton) and overtook Leclerc (Ferrari).

Sainz lengthened the stop and switched to hard at 22 laps, the Monegasque immediately stopped for the second time and was very angry with his team on the radio.

Checo also stopped again to put the same tire as Sainz, who was between him and Verstappen. Leclerc was fourth.

The man from Madrid, with warm tires, overcame the man from Guadalajara, with a scare included and a dose of luck so as not to lose the car.

It was worse for Mick Schumacher (Haas), although he was uninjured. His car broke in two and broke the protection barriers, which had to be replaced, causing another red flag.

The race was resumed in the absence of 37 laps behind the safety car. Although they would dispute less because there were 39 minutes left.

A plane by Pérez, with medium tyres, after overbraking, put Sainz, who was on hard tires, on alert. The one from Red Bull imposed a slow pace to ensure and achieved his victory under pressure from Sainz.

Verstappen, leader of the World Championship, got on the podium, although, unlike the previous races he completed, he could not be first. Even so, he extended the income with Leclerc, fourth. Behind, the British George Russell (Mercedes) and the Spanish Fernando Alonso (Alpine), who resisted the push of the seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).
